I'm back in Texas! I visited my family for two weeks over Christmas and New years in the Netherlands (where I'm from), and taped several shows from there.
It was very different to tape outside, in the cold, amongst snow, and in the rain: but so much fun!
I taped show 44 straight from a frozen canal in Appelscha, the Netherlands. It was early in the morning and super cold outside (as you can probably tell by the way I'm dressed). Plus, we weren't sure if the ice was thick enough to stand on it, but my dear hubby agreed to be the guinea pig - and he first stood and jumped on the ice to make sure it would hold us. Thank goodness - it did. Check it out here:
In show 45, you can see some nice spots from Sleen, a small town in Drenthe (the Netherlands). I especially like the end of the show: check out the icicles!
One of my favorite shots is in front of a typical Dutch windmill, also in Sleen. It turned out very pretty, but a little bit dark. It's very grey and dark in the Netherlands around this time of year, and on this day, the sun didn't come out at all. The show turned out great though:
Show 47 was one of the hardest shows to make. It's taped over several days - at the US airport, at a Dutch train station, and at my parents' house. We also got in a bit of trouble when we were trying to shoot from the Dutch train station - right when my husband was about to hit 'record' on the camera, a train official came by to tell us we weren't allowed to shoot there. It was one of the most ridiculous things I'd ever heard. So, we drove around the station, and taped on the other side :-) Yes, that's the stubbornness in me coming out.
And the last show from the Netherlands almost never made it. First of all, the weather decided not to cooperate at all - it rained, and rained, and rained. Eventually we decided to just go out and tape it under two umbrellas (one for me, one for my dear camera man). It was cold and wet, and almost too dark. So, we taped a bit more the next day at the radio station I used to volunteer at. I'm actually very pleased with how that turned out: especially because lots of my familymembers were there - and they just HAD to be on the show!
