It was the experience of a lifetime. Never did I dare to dream of doing this: jumping out of an airplane with the US Army Golden Knights! Strapped to a soldier, wearing a hot yellow suit (including sexy goggles), from thousands of feet high!! The best part was standing outside the door, hearing SSG Joseph Jones count down, and falling in the sky. Then - a smack of air in my face, the feeling that I couldn't breath, but I quickly remembered my training: 'just relax, and SMILE!'
And so I did - and with a camera just a few feet from my face, I enjoyed those wonderful precious seconds of free falling. When the parachute came out, the harsh wind was replaced with a soft breeze, and I felt free. SSG Joseph (Joe) and the entire team made this an amazing experience. I will never, ever forget this expierence, but most of all the people. I had the chance to get to know the Golden Knights personally during a dinner and OpenCa.mp this weekend. They are truly the most humble, friendly, and down-to-earth (if that's possible) people I've ever met.
These guys' workdays start with jumping out of a plane. Every week, they leave their families behind to travel from city to city and country to country to show their skills and talk about the US army. This weekend, they openly shared memories of harder times: pictures of Afghanistan and stories about 'bad guys.' But they also cracked jokes, shared dinner, and even sung a few notes of karaoke. I had no hesitation trusting my life to the Golden Knights -- it's something they do every day. Here's a video from The 33 News (haven't had the chance to grab vid from the Golden Knights -- will do that soon!)
